If we were to point to one of our most ambitious projects we’ve embarked on in the fifty (and counting) years of service DD has provided for dentists across the UK and ROI, our Reactive Maintenance Engineering Network would be a strong candidate. Over 140 engineers, distributed across our nations, all of whom are trained to a high standard, receiving manufacturer training and support. These engineers and technicians are trained across all disciplines – which means they can test, service, validate, and repair everything from your dental chair to your X-ray Unit and are available at short notice for emergency repair. We’ll be detailing a little bit about the process of reactive repair, what makes our process so special, and some of the people who make it happen.

If you would like to learn about how we repair handpieces and small equipment, consider our article on the matter. If you are a customer who purchases from our range of dental products, consider reading our article on how we keep your temperature-controlled products safe in high heat. If you're looking for helpful, general interest dental articles, we also created a series relating to National Smile Month. This series covered topics including How to Encourage Better Oral Health, What Is National Smile Month, and  Which Toothpaste should I use in 2024?

The Reactive Maintenance Timeline
This will be a brief description of how reactive maintenance often plays out. It may seem dramatic, but please do humour us, there’s a purpose behind it:

Step 01 – The Break
This story starts with a breakdown. Breakdowns happen to all of us, from storied veterans within the dental community to future superstars. Sometimes it’s something dramatic, like dropping a handpiece, other times it’s something inevitable, like a dental chair mechanism giving way to wear and tear. Regardless of how it happens, it’s an inconvenience for your practice and can result in surgery downtime, so it needs fixing, fast before you can get back up and running.

Step 02 – The Call

You call DD right away and describe the issue in detail. Once we know everything we need to know, you will be referred to one of our scheduling team, and they will quickly schedule an engineer to attend.

Step 03 – The Repair

Our engineer attends, evaluates the situation, and will clearly lay out repair expectations and a timeline for you. Then, after this, they’ll get to work and fix your equipment.

If you’re thinking that the above journey looks a little short, don’t worry, that’s on purpose. We’ve deliberately kept our reactive maintenance process as quick and as simple as possible. DD spares no effort and cuts no corners when it comes to our engineering, but an important part of that process is ensuring that our clients always feel comfortable and in control. Equipment breakdowns can be stressful, inconvenient and lose you precious surgery time. The expenses of losing a vital part of your practices’ infrastructure are compounded by the potential days of downtime you may have to contend with. This is why we keep our process as simple as possible, giving you an easy pathway to getting your equipment, and your practice, back to top condition.

What makes DD’s Reactive Engineering Special

To start off, as of the current time of writing, we have the largest network of dental engineers in the nation. This isn't just a brag, if you have a breakdown, it’s very likely that a DD technician will be in your area and ready to assist you. This means we can offer very quick short-notice turnarounds on reactive issues, and even offer emergency appointments for when time is of the essence. This, of course, minimises your practice downtime in the event of equipment breakdown and means you can get your practice back to normal, fast.

It’s not just our service times which are top-notch, we rigorously train our engineers with the intention of making them the best in the business.

Each engineer is trained to be able to repair a wide variety of equipment (see our long list below if you’d like to know the range) to meet, or exceed, the manufacturer’s standards. After repair, you will receive a Condition Report after each service, letting you know exactly what kind of condition your equipment is in. Additionally, you will receive a warranty as standard.

If you’re signed up with one of DD’s repair plans, you can enjoy discounts of up to 20% on reactive maintenance, and if you’re signing up multiple pieces of equipment under one plan, you can enjoy discounted prices. Finally, DD members also enjoy an additional 15% off last-minute repairs.

Our repairs always use official parts, and we always offer competitive rates. This helps you save money, without compromising the quality of your repaired equipment. We don’t cut corners at DD.
