Sometimes referred to under the brand names Monotrim, Minotrim, and Trimogal, Trimethoprim is an antifolate antibiotic which is used to treat a number of bacterial infections, including oral bacterial infections. This is an antibiotic that can be taken twice a day, and does not prevent your patient from drinking alcohol. Additionally, a side effect of Trimethoprim is short-lived skin rashes, which typically cause mild itching and discomfort
